On 30. September 2011, Germany's "Coffee Day", 52 Harburgers happily sipped a steaming cup of fair-traded organic coffee sponosored by Fair Trade Town Hamburg. It all happened at the local Town Hall between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The event was geared towards making municipal workers aware of the need for supporting fair-trade structures to end the north-south divide.
HARBURG21, the local World Shop (Harburg), neugraben fairäendern and the Fair Trade City Hamburg had invited civil servants based in Hamburg-Harburg to participate in raising the world record of fair-traded coffee dished out on that particular day - the nationwide celebrated "Coffee Day" - to over 500,000 cups.
And indeed, the target set by Transfair Germany (www.fairtrade-deutschland.de) was exceeded by 40.000,000 cups!
